Seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer

Work as a senior electrical engineer in a casual and fun team setting to provide consulting to utilities, power producers seeking grid interconnection, and develop solutions for utility grid management.

Job Description

This is an opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer.  Your immediate assignment includes several exciting projects with high visibility funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE).  Responsibilities will include distribution and transmission model analysis and review, data model conversion and translation and model meta data review. You will work with highly experienced industry experts from GridBright and our partners.  Other assignments would include supporting interconnection studies for renewable resources that seek grid interconnection in California.

Minimum Requirements

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered.

  • BS Degree in EE
  • Professional Engineer Registration
  • US citizens or permanent resident
  • Five years of experience in T&D grid planning
  • Extensive experience with Load Flow analysis, OPF, and Transient Stability
  • Consulting, customer service, and user support experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability to successfully take leadership roles in technical committees in industry forums such as IEEE
  • Experience with Interconnection studies (e.g., for renewable generation and storage)
  • Knowledge of more than one mathematical, optimization, power systems tools such as:
    • MatLab (including use with MatPower)
    • Gurobi
    • CPLEX
    • AMPL
  • Knowledge of at least one of these Power Systems analysis tools and their associated models including:
    • PSLF
    • MatPower
    • CymeDist
    • SynerGee
    • Milsoft Windmill
    • EPRI DEW
    • OpenDSS
    • GridLabD
  • Knowledge of at least one modern programming language such as:
    • Python
    • Java
    • Julia
    • C++

Other Desired Qualifications

The following qualities are desired and will be used to differentiate the applicants: 

  • MS Degree in EE
  • Ten years experience
  • Experience working at a utility
  • Located in California or Minneapolis
  • Past experience in chairing IEEE technical committees
  • Supervision skills
  • Familiarity with utility industry software and standards
    • Utility Common Information Model (CIM)
    • Multispeak
    • Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), especially ESRI or SmallWorld
  • Familiarity with data exchange standards
    • XML
    • JSON
  • Knowledge of basic software development technologies including
    • GitHub or other version control software
    • XMLSpy
    • Relational databases like Oracle or MySQL
    • Eclipse IDE
  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux
